Qassam lands in Sderot

Red Dawn alert system activated after Palestinian terrorists fire rocket at southern town; no injuries reported

A Qassam rocket landed in the southern town of Sderot Monday around noon following several days of respite, as the Red Dawn alert system was activated again.

Police forces and sappers were dispatched to the scene of the landing in an attempt to pinpoint the exact location. No injuries were reported in the latest attack

A Sderot resident said locals were barely able to hear the warning siren after getting used to the quiet of recent days.

“However, we heard the very loud blast very well and it was very scary,” he said.

Schools not reinforced against rockets

At this time there are still large numbers of ant-pullout activists in the town, after a mass rally was held there last week. One of them, Moshe Shachor, said repeated Qassam attacks prove how dangerous the disengagement is and show that Sderot would continue to be targeted even after the pullout.

Meanwhile, Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal is scheduled to meet Monday with Education Minister Limor Livnat to ensure educational facilities in the town are reinforced against rocket attacks. The mayor has already announced the upcoming school year would not open on time because of the rocket threat and the failure to address it.
