The grave of Jewish Terrorist Eden Natan Zada, who murdered four people in Shfaram last Thursday, was desecrated by vandals Tuesday morning.

Officials in Rishon Lezion, where Zada is buried, said vandals arrived at the fresh gravesite, dumped the sign placed next to it, and removed some of the dirt covering it. The terrorist’s remains were not touched.

As a result, officials assigned guards to watch over the grave for the time being. Rishon Lezion’s mayor, Meir Nitzan, characterized the incident as "severe."

Cemetery employees discovered the desecrated grave while on a routine garbage collection round. In one of the dumpsters they found a sign bearing the terrorist's name and date of his death. The workers then rushed to the gravesite where they realized some of he dirt covering the fresh grave was removed.

The Chevra Kadisha burial society promptly informed city hall and the later placed guards on patrol to prevent reoccurrence of similar incidents.

Dispute over burial

Rishon Lezion mayor, Meir Nitzan, said: “it seems that someone vandalized the grave but could not reach the body. Grave desecration is a severe act and we will not be a party to it.”

The dispute surrounding Zada’s burial dominated the headlines over the weekend as Rishon Lezion city hall objected to burial in the city. Meanwhile, local residents voiced their concerns over the prospect of the cemetery drawing far right activists.

Following lengthy discussions and several meetings, Natan Zada was finally buried in the city’s cemetery, after the Prime Minister's Office intervened in the affair.
