Hamas: We will avenge Shilo attack
Terror group spokesman says in response to terror attack that left 3 Palestinians dead, ‘This crime is not going to pass without tough punishment.’ PA official: If the Palestinians carry arms to protect themselves and liberate their nation, these people kill only because of their thirst for blood
Hamas has threatened to avenge the shooting attack in Shilo, which left three Palestinians dead Wednesday.
"This crime is not going to pass without tough punishment," Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri told The Associated Press.
However, he said Hamas also has an interest in seeing the Gaza withdrawal proceed, suggesting Hamas might not act immediately.
Senior Hamas member Sheikh Hassan Yusuf said Palestinian organizations must reconsider the agreed-upon lull in light of the attack.
“We continue to support the calm, but it cannot be one-sided,” he said. “Things are liable to spin out of control due to the terrorist acts committed by Israeli criminals.”
Yusuf added, “The attack is another crime in a series of crimes by the Israeli occupation and the villains who represent it - the settlers.”
“We received warnings that Israelis would commit additional terror attacks in response to the Gaza evacuation- this would compel the Palestinian people to rethink the calm,” he said.
The Palestinian Authority called on Israel to disarm the settlers.
“This is an act of terror by a blood-thirsty man who came from a place full of blood-thirsty people,” PA official Abed el-Qadr said.
“We hold the Israeli government and the occupation responsible for the attack and its consequences; Israel must dismantle the Jewish terror infrastructures. If the Palestinians carry arms to protect themselves and liberate their nation, these people kill only because of their thirst for blood.”
