IDF shoots armed Palestinian
Roadblock commander fires at man who charged at soldiers with knife; Palestinian shot in leg
Stabbing attack foiled: The commander of an IDF roadblock east of the West Bank town of Nablus shot a Palestinian in the leg after the man charged at soldiers with a knife while yelling out “Allahu Akbar” (God is great in Arabic.)
The Palestinian was treated by Red Crescent medics, before being taken away for interrogation.
Meanwhile, the police are deploying in force across Israel and have declared the highest state of alert ahead of Rosh Hashana. The closure imposed on the West Bank and Gaza will remain in force, as authorities contend with 55 terror warnings.
Troops on alert around Gaza
Large forces will be deployed particularly near the territories and around Jerusalem, while other troops are deployed around major cities. Security activity will be boosted in crowded areas, including markets, bus stops, and train station. On Monday, the eve of the holiday, forces will focus on synagogues and highways.
Troops are also on alert around the Gaza Strip, with officials examining terrorists’ declarations that they would halt rocket attacks on Israeli communities. For the time being, ground forces, anti-aircraft troops, and Air Force pilots are on high alert.
“We are here in the framework of a situation that will not end in a day or two. Every development and every shooting attack will prompt us to respond,” an IDF official said.
