No kippa? Join National Religious Party

National Religious Party (NRP) committee rules that traditional Jews who do not wear kippas on regular basis may still join; party chairman Orlev: A historic decision

Connecting with the people? A National Religious Party (NRP) committee has ruled that traditional Jews who do not wear kippas on a regular basis may still join the party, providing they accept the party’s platform.

Up until now only people who signed a form stating they abided by the Torah and perform the mitzvahs were permitted to join.

NRP Chairman Zevulun Orlev, who pushed for the aforementioned amendment to the party’s charter along with Secretary-General Sar-Shalom Jerbi, said, “This is a historic decision. The party assessed the situation on the ground and decided to incorporate a large segment of the population that is loyal to Jewish tradition and wants to see Israel as a Jewish state.”

“The party cannot remain in isolation.”

Sar-Shalom Jerbi told Ynet, “We are opening the door to all those who up until this point could not express themselves within the party’s framework. Should the party’s Central Committee accept the proposal, it will clear the way for the non-religious public to join.”
