State: Israel will not register as married same-sex couples

The state of Israel does not recognize same-sex marriage, and therefore will refuse to register as married same-sex couples who got marries abroad, the State wrote in response to a petition on the matter filed to the High Court of Justice Sunday.

Two male couples who were married in Canada petitioned to the court requesting they will be allowed to register as married with the Interior Ministry. In its response the State stressed that same-sex couples are recognized in Israel for purposes of financial and social services. (Tal Rosner)
