According to the indictment, Muhammad Rumhi and Sa’id Shalalde were members of a Hamas cell that decided to abduct Israelis in order to later negotiate their release in a bid to secure the release of Palestinian prisoners.
On September 21, cell members abducted Nuriel, who was the employer of one of the alleged terrorists. After the abduction, however, the terrorists decided to murder Nuriel for fear they would be captured by security authorities.
According to the indictment, Shalalda murdered Nuriel using a knife, before cell members attempted to hide his body.
Meanwhile, the Military Court in Judea sentenced Mahmad Barash to three life sentences and a further 30 years in jail for his part in the shooting attack at the British Police Junction in 2000. Two IDF soldiers and a civilian were killed in the attack.
Barash was also convicted of attempting to murder an Israeli civilian in a shooting attack in Jerusalem’s French Hill neighborhood in February 2001.
