Pakistani Muslim to promote Israel

Man surprises Foreign Ministry officials, joins online Israeli PR course; new students says he is enthusiastic supporter of Israel

A Muslim man from Pakistan has joined an online Internet course that trains spokespersons to promote Israel in the world, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday.

The course is organized by the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the Jewish Agency.

The Pakistani student, in his 30s, spoke to Ministry officials on the phone and told them that he works for a non-governmental organization and is an enthusiastic supporter of Israel.

"I believe in Israel and support it. It's time for dialogue between the two countries, which will lead to cooperation in a variety of areas," he said.

The course, which opened at the beginning of the month, has 150 participants from all over the world. Each student pays tuition of USD 60. The course is one month long and includes two classes a week and a summarizing meeting.

As part of the classes, the students listen to online lectures from Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mark Regev, who teaches them how to deal with public relations problems related to Israel, including the West Bank security fence, settlements, the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank disengagement, and more.

The people who register to the course commit themselves to assist in the "marketing" of Israel's interests in the world.
