Braverman to Peres: Stay in Labor party
Labor's newest member Professor Avishay Braverman calls for Peres to remain in party. 'You were born and live in the party,' he says
Outgoing Ben Gurion University President Professor Avishay Braverman called Saturday for Vice Premier Shimon Peres to remain in the Labor party, amid speculation Peres may join Sharon's new list.
Braverman, who announced his resignation as university president and plan to join the Labor party several days ago, added that "Peres was born into the Labor party, lives in the party and must remain in it."
Peres met with newly-elected Labor leader Amir Peretz three days ago, where he informed him of his intention to stay in the Labor party for the time being, despite speculation he was planning to join Sharon’s new Kadima party.
Braverman has unequivocally expressed his support for Peretz and on Thursday announced during a press conference his plan to join the party.
"Amir Peretz is not a communist, Amir Peretz has followed the path of Tony Blair," he said.
