Shalom visits Tel Aviv's Carmel Market
Foreign Minister Shalom visits market, accompanied by wife and several body guards, as part of campaign for Likud party leadership; stall owners and shoppers may little interest to minister
Foreign Minister and Likud leadership candidate Silvan Shalom arrived at Tel Aviv's Carmel Market Wednesday, accompanied by his wife Judy and several body guards.
Despite signs at the entrance to the market expressing support for the minister, most stall owners and shoppers did not appear to be too interested in his visit and continued with their daily routine.

About a dozen supporters accompanied Shalom as he went from stall to stall greeting passersby, while shouting his campaign slogan "Only Silvan Can" in an attempt to arouse interest.
Several did take notice and stopped to shake the foreign minister's hand and wish him luck for upcoming Likud primaries.
"I'm sorry to hear about Hanegbi leaving," Shalom told reporters gathered at the market. "Tzachi was not strong enough to stand up against the rebels who destroyed the Likud, however in two weeks time under my leadership, a new Likud will be created and I'm calling for activists to hold on."
