Hizbullah recruits al-Aqsa member

Security officials say al-Aqsa member detained two months ago for taking part in terror activities planned by Lebanese Shiite group Hizbullah. Majdi Amer, 31, received funds to purchase arms, plan attacks on IDF soldiers from Palestinian Hizbullah agent in Gaza Strip

A member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades was arrested two months ago for taking part in terror activities planned by the Lebanese Shiite group Hizbullah, security officials said Monday.

Majdi Amer, 31, received funds to purchase arms and plan attacks on IDF soldiers from a Palestinian Hizbullah agent in the Gaza Strip.

Majdi told interrogators he had been in contact with a Hizbullah agent called Abu Rabia through Wassim Mansour, a Tanzim man in his hometown village near Nablus, who promised Hizbullah would fund terror activities in the territories.

Hizbullah is “a good source for obtaining funds, and these funds are being used to carry out attacks against Israeli targets,” Majdi told his interrogators.

Hizbullah paid Majdi and his twin brother Majed USD 1500 to purchase arms and weapons.

In February 2005, Wassim was arrested and Abu Rabia told Majdi that a Gaza resident named Abu Louai would be his agent. Abu Louai contacted Majid a few days later and funneled an additional USD 1500 for purchasing more arms.

Majdi purchased rifles and carried out a series of shooting attacks against IDF soldiers with members of a terror cell affiliated with the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades. Most members of the cell were members of the Palestinian Authority security services.

In addition to the financing from Hizbullah, Majdi received a monthly sum of NIS 400 - 700 (about USD 85 – 150) from the Palestinian Authority to stop all terror activities against Israel.

Over the last months Hizbullah set up terror cells in the Gaza Strip whose aim is to set up a terror network in the West Bank.

Security officials noted that the Shiite group is interested in escalating the situation in territories as it is encouraging Palestinian terrorists to carry out as many attacks as possible with disregard to the quality of these attacks.
