West Bank settlers to build 25 new outposts

West Bank youngsters plan on building new outposts alongside established settlements during Hanukkah holiday. ‘If Sharon is thinking about implementing a second disengagement here, he should implement it on the Arabs,’ one organizer tells Ynet

Ynet exclusive: After settler youths set up six illegal outposts throughout the West Bank during the Sukkot holiday, they now plan on erecting 25 more during the Hanukkah, 15 of which will apparently be set up within the next 24 hours, Ynet has learned Tuesday.

The settlers claimed that 10 new outposts have already been erected near such settlements as Talmon Maaleh Haver, and Kochav Hashachar.

The settlers also claimed to have set up an outpost near Kissufim.

The additional West Bank outposts are expected to be built near established settlements, such as Efrat, Kedumim, Elon Moreh, and Ofra.

One of the youngsters organizing the operation told Ynet, "the battle on the West Bank will be different from the battle on Gush Katif. If Sharon is thinking about implementing a second disengagement here, he should implement it on the Arabs, who are working on promoting terror."

The youths' activity is backed by rabbis, including Yesha Rabbis' Council Chairman Dov Lior, Daniela Weiss, head of the Kedumim Regional Council, and Nadia Matar, leader of the Women in Green organization.

'Not like thieves'

A teenage girl taking part in the outpost building said that "We are going up to the outposts because this is the Land of Israel. This is not a battle on someone's house. This is a battle on homeland territories and on the Land of Israel."

"We are going (to set the outposts) up openly and with a statement, rather than quietly as thieves. We know that if we make a lot of noise, there is a bigger chance that we will be banished, but we are going up proudly and fighting for the Land of Israel. We have not given up and we are here," she said.

The girl added that some of the new outposts will be erected near a site where people were murdered in terror attacks.

"The government didn’t do anything because it is afraid. We are not afraid. We will continue to settle the West Bank," she said.

A number of conferences, in which hundreds of youths took part, were held in the past few weeks across the country in preparation for building 25 outposts during Hanukkah. The youths promised that 25 outposts will be built until the beginning of next week and that 15 of them will already be built in the next 24 hours.

Simultaneously, right-wing activists are expected to light Hanukkah candles in 70 intersections within and beyond the Green Line starting Tuesday evening.

In October, during the holiday of Sukkot, settlers built six outposts. Harsh clashes erupted between the settlers and security forces that arrived to evacuate them. During the clashes, and IDF officer sustained a serious eye injury.

Knesset Member Zahava Gal-On (Meretz-Yahad) said that she expects the authorities to evacuate the outposts that are expected to be built in the West Bank, with the same efficiency in which they evacuated the left-wing activists' caravan from the village of Bilin.

"Until now, the building of outposts has been a worthwhile crime," Galon said.
