Some 350 people braved sub-freezing temperatures Monday next to a Helskinki ice skating rink to mark the second night of Chanukah.
Those who gathered to celebrate included members of the local Jewish community and many guests.
They attended a unique Chanukah party and candle lighting ceremony.
The candles were lit by Israel's ambassador to Finland, Shemi Tzur, and the head of the Conservative Party, Benny Ziskovich.
Also attending the event were community president Gideon Bolotowski and Chabad emissary Benyamin Wolff.
Ice menorah
The ceremony took place in view of a 1.5 meter (5 foot) ice menorah, sculpted by a local artist and featured in the middle of the skating rink.
"It was an amazing sight. Hundreds of people eating jelly donuts and ice skating by the light of Christmas lights all around," Ambassador Tzur told Ynet.
Government ministers and official representatives were not invited this year, due to the local holiday.
"The Chanukah party was characterized by a free, friendly atmosphere," he said.
The event was not unique, however. Also this week, Israeli diplomats light the first candle of Chanukah atop the Great Wall of China.
