Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu said following the approval of the amendment to the party’s charter that, “This decision will lead to the removal of criminal elements that have infiltrated the party in recent years.
“The Likud is leading a process to cleanse Israeli politics,” he said.
The amendment states that members with criminal records and those who have been sentenced to three months active prison terms would not be allowed to run as candidates in party primaries and would be removed from the party. (Ilan Marciano)
