Palestinians fire 2 Qassams at Israel
Palestinians fire Qassam rockets from Gaza at western Negev area; no injuries, damage reported
Palestinians fired two Qassam rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip Monday afternoon, the IDF confirmed.
The rockets fell in empty fields in the western Negev. No one was injured and no damages were reported.
On Saturday three rockets were fired at Israel from the Beit Hanoun area in northern Gaza but fell short of their target and exploded on the Palestinian side of the Erez crossing.
A fourth rocket fired shortly afterwards exploded in Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Police could not locate the explosion site. IDF forces responded to Saturday’s attacks by firing artillery rounds at Qassam launching pads in northern Gaza.
The last attempt to fire Qassams at Israel was identified by the army on Thursday, at around 7.30 p.m. A Qassam rocket fired from the northern Gaza fell in Kibbutz Nir Am. On Wednesday two Qassams fell near Sderot on Highway 34, narrowly missing a gas station.
A military operation codenamed ‘Blue Skies’ was launched in late December to quell Qassam attacks from northern Gaza. IDF officials related the attacks to the lawlessness raging in Gaza ahead of the January 25 elections.
