Iranian president to visit Syria for the first time

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will make an official visit to Syria this weekend, where he will meet with Syrian President Basher Assad, Iran has said.

This is the first official visit of the Iranian president to Syria since he came to power in 2005. Syria is Iran's central ally in the Arab world. (AFP)
