IDF kills Palestinian near Gaza fence
In incident on northern Gaza security fence, IDF force kills al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades activist, injures two other
An al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades activist has been killed and two other Palestinians were wounded after an IDF force opened fire at them near the northern Gaza Strip security fence Saturday.
According to IDF sources, an army force operating in the region has spotted three men crawling in the direction of the security fence in northern Gaza, apparently in order to place an explosive device near the fence. The soldiers opened fire at the three men, killing one of them and wounding the other two.
A Red Crescent ambulance has arrived to the scene and evacuated the injured men.
Saturday's incident took place five days prior to the parliamentary elections in the Palestinian Authority, and after a period of relative calm in the Strip, including a decrease in Qassam fire at Israel.
The Southern Command has already held several discussions in a bid to prepare for possible scenarios that may take place on election day and the days to follow.
IDF sources agree that any unusual incident during this sensitive period may generate an escalation in the situation, and has therefore prepared accordingly.
