New al-Aqsa missile targets Israel
Terror group says it developed new missile capable of reaching all of Israel’s major population centers, if fired from West Bank
The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed group affiliated with Fatah, says it has developed a new type of missile with a range of 27 kilometers, or 16 miles.
The group says its military industry unit has developed a new generation of what it calls an “Al-Aqsa 207 missile,” The Media Line has learned.
While the previous Al-Aqsa 107 missiles had a range of 17 kilometers, or 11 miles, the upgraded 207 rockets will extend to 27 kilometers, the group said, putting in range all of Israel’s major population centers, if fired from the West Bank.
There was no mention as to whether the improved missiles were more accurate than older versions.
The group also warned Israel’s military leadership that “a new era has begun,” and that they should “think a thousand times before embarking on a foolish adventure.”
Less sophisticated than rockets fired from Gaza
Israel’s attempts to create a buffer zone in the northern Gaza Strip will fall through, they added, and Israel will have no choice but to withdraw from the whole of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Palestinian armed groups have fired dozens of missiles from the northern Gaza Strip onto Jewish communities in the Negev since Israel withdrew its forces from the Gaza Strip in August 2005.
Senior Israeli defense analysts estimated that following Israel’s pullout from Gaza, armed groups would be given room to build up their military capability and transfer missiles to the West Bank.
Earlier this month, Israeli officials revealed that, for the first time, a Palestinian rocket was successfully fired from the northern West Bank at an Israeli target three weeks earlier.
The missile was reportedly less sophisticated than rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.
Qassam rockets, a type of missile frequently fired from the Gaza Strip, have a range of about 10 kilometers, or six miles.
