Iran invites Blair to Holocaust seminar

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi invited British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Sunday to attend the Holocaust seminar to be held in Tehran this spring, the Tehran Times reported.

Talking to domestic and foreign reporters at his weekly press briefing, Asefi said if Blair attends the seminar, he can hear and raise issues which he cannot hear in London.

"What was published as a document in the United Nations on Saturday is the stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Holocaust," the Tehran Times quoted Asefi as saying.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has described the Holocaust as a "myth" and suggested that those who sympathize with “alleged” Jewish victims be generous enough to give some of their territories to the Jewish state.

'Agreement comes out of negotiation'

"If the British prime minister presents an article to the seminar, we will give time to others to hear his views,” Asefi said.

He added that the Russian nuclear proposal, under which Moscow can enrich uranium for Iran on Russian soil, can be regarded as useful.

Asefi noted that Iran and Russia would hold the second round of nuclear talks in mid-February on details of the offer.

"Agreement comes out of negotiation," he noted, adding, "The door is still open for talks and the two sides can find a formula and reach an agreement.

"Iran does not trust Europe if Europe does not trust Iran. If confidence is the issue, negotiation is the solution."
