A Qassam rocket landed Friday in the southern community of Nativ Ha’asara, near the dwellings of the Thai workers residing there.
No injuries were reported, but the incident raised fears among the 300 Thai workers, especially as they have no security rooms to seek shelter in.
Gil Taasa, who is in charge of security at Nativ Ha’asara, attempted to ease the workers’ concerns, saying “we are waiting for the security rooms designated for the workers; it is clear to us that if one of them gets hurt, we will not have any foreign workers and this will be a fatal blow to the community, which has been suffering from Qassam fire for the past five years.”
'People avoid outdoors social events'
The “Red Dawn” alert system was not activated during the Qassam attack, just as it did not go off during the rocket attack on Karmiya, duringwhich a baby and two men were injured.
“Luckily the Qassam landed in an open area and the residents did not hear the boom,” Taasa said.
“I’m afraid to arouse their fears once again.”
He added that “last month 36 rockets landed here, and we feel hoe our quality of life is hurt with each passing day.
“People do not walk in the community and avoid outdoors social events to stay as close as possible to the security rooms,” Taasa said.
Nativ Ha’asara resident Dana Zelkovitch, 24, was killed during a previous Qassam attack on the community.
On Thursday a Qassam rocket was fired from Gaza and landed between Zikim and Karmiya; no injuries or damage were reported. Also on Thursday, the “Red Dawn” alert system detected a Qassam launching from Gaza toward Sderot; no injuries or damage were reported in this attack either.
On Wednesday a Qassam landed in an industrial zone south of Ashkelon. The area is considered security-sensitive due to the many infrastructure facilities located there.
