Rabbis slam 'evil government'

Leaflets distributed at synagogues over weekend blast courts, permit violence against police

Right-wing leaflets distributed in synagogues across the country over the weekend in the wake of violent clashes between settlers and security forces at the West Bank outpost of Amona featured scathing attacks against the government, courts, and police forces.

"A government that acts against the people and its Torah is defined as a 'conspiracy of evil' and should be ignored," one such leaflet distributed across the nation read.

The leaflet, entitled "Small World," also blasts High Court judges for allowing the evacuation of Amona to proceed and characterizes them as traitors.

"Therefore, any law or order that contradict the Torah are annulled and it is a mitzvah (religious commandment) to fight them in every possible way," the leaflet read.

'Government has no right to exist'

It appears that high emotions over the violent evacuation of Amona have not yet subsided among settlers and right-wingers in Israel, with most leaflets handed out at synagogues dealing with police violence during the evacuation.

In one leaflet, earmarked for youngsters, a group of four rabbis issued several extreme statements.

The leaflet charges "police and destruction forces" with wrongdoing and notes that "such government, which lets the blood of Jews who maintain God's torah in their ancestral land, has no right to exist."

The rabbis add the current government "is not an elected government, but rather, a random gathering of politicians who made their way to power." In addition, the rabbis rule that military and government officials must personally compensate those who were hurt during the Amona clashes.

"The prime minister, army chief, judges, police chief, Central Command chief, and everyone who took part and brought about destruction, each one must personally and fully pay for all the financial damages caused to the residents," the leaflet charges.

'People of Israel won't surrender to corrupt politicians'

Turning their attention to police officers, the rabbis write: "He who comes to uproot Torah and mitzvoth from Israel – and in our case a soldier or policeman as well – is not your brother."

The rabbis add: "The statement 'do not raise a hand on a policeman' is true as long as the police officer keeps the mitzvoth of the Torah and maintains justice. This isn't the case when the policeman is a party to a crime and to an act of robbery and destruction."

In conclusion, the rabbis direct a message to Israeli decision-makers as well.

"Any government representative, anyone who comes to uproot Torah and Mitzvoth from Israel, will meet a fortified wall…a generation has risen that is willing to give its life on behalf of God's Torah and for the sake of the Land of Israel."

"The people of Israel did not surrender to the Greeks and Romans, it did not surrender to the Turks and English. Thus, the people of Israel will not surrender and bow its head in the face of Jewish leaders who are empty of Torah and corrupt…"
