Purim terror attack thwarted

Palestinian sources said attack was coordinated between Fatah’s military wing, al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, and Islamic Jihad

IDF soldiers on Sunday evening arrested two Palestinians west of Nablus for trying to smuggle into Israel an explosive device weighing up to 20 kilograms.

The findings of an initial interrogation of the terror suspects revealed that the device was meant to be used in a terror attack over the Purim holiday.

The device was hidden in a jug carried in a bag. Police sappers defused the device.

Palestinian sources said the attack was coordinated between Fatah’s military wing, the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and the Islamic Jihad.

On Sunday morning a state of high alert was declared across the country ahead of the Purim holiday over fears that terror groups will try to carry out attacks.

The security establishment received 59 warnings of terror attacks, including 14 pinpoint alerts. The IDF will impose a curfew on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip over Purim, and checkpoints will be opened for humanitarian reasons only.
