Mazuz to decide on Zeevi killers' trial

Suspects arrested in Jericho operation undergo interrogation at Shin Bet facility; decision on whether they will face trial rests with attorney general

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz will be making the final decision on whether to try the top detainees arrested Tuesday after an IDF siege on the Jericho prison.

The six, who include Ahmad Saadat, head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), are being questioned by Shin Bet officers as all Palestinian terror members caught during army operations are questioned.

Security officials say that at this time the decision on whether the six should stand trial is in the hands of Mazuz, after the six were already tried in a Palestinian court.

Suspects linked to terror activities

Two of the six suspects, Saadat and Ahed Ghulma, a commander of the PFLP in the West Bank, are also linked by the defense forces with terror activities within the walls of the Jericho prison, and their interrogation may last longer.

Around 200 Palestinians held in the Jericho prison turned themselves in to the army on Tuesday. Many of them have already been released. Israel plans on keeping in custody four of Zeevi's assassins, the planners of the killing, Saadat and a sixth man, terror financier Fuad Shubaki, along with 30 prisoners who have been implicated by intelligence of being linked to terrorist activity.

Those who did not appear on Israel's list of wanted suspects were released on the spot.
