Hassidic rapper takes over America

Mattisyahu's new album jumps straight to number four on charts

American hassidic rapper and reggae star Mattisyahu has taken the American music establishment by storm: His new album "Youth" has jumped straight to number four on the best seller charts.

Mattisyahu, born as Matthew Miller in the New York area, appeared in Israel in December. Since then, he has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and has become a bonafide star in the United States.

His new album is categorized as "reggae" made the highest debut on the charts for a reggae album since 1991. The album came out last week and has already sold 119,000 copies.

And that's not the emerging star's only spot in the top 40. His previous album, Live at Stubbs, is currently at number 36, making him the only artist to have two albums in the top 40 this week. That album sold half-a-million copies.

Mattisyahu also made a guest appearance on a new-metal album for the band "P.O.D. His first album, "Shake Off the Dust… Arise" was released in 2004.
