Jericho: IDF kills Islamic Jihad terrorist

Wanted Islamic Jihad terrorist shot dead by soldiers operating in West Bank city; 19 more wanted terror suspects nabbed

A wanted Islamic Jihad terrorist was shot dead early Wednesday by IDF forces operating in the West Bank city of Jericho.

In total, soldiers apprehended 19 wanted terror suspects throughout the West Bank. No soldiers were injured.

IDF soldiers entered Jericho aiming to seize three wanted Islamic Jihad terror suspects. The troops encircled two homes in which the suspects were hiding, and a short while later the wanted Jihadists gave themselves up. During a search of a third home soldiers came upon a suspect hiding under mattresses; they proceeded to shoot and kill the man. Later it was determined that the man was a wanted terror suspect.

The IDF reported that the three were Islamic Jihad terrorists who planned to carry out terror attacks within the next few days.

On Tuesday Police apprehended a terrorist who planned to carry out an attack in the heart of Israel. The man, a Palestinian in his twenties from the West Bank village of el-Yamun near Jenin, is a member of the Islamic Jihad. Jerusalem District Police Chief Ilan Franco defined the operation to thwart the attack, in the framework of which policemen took control over the stunned terrorists and nine other passengers in the vehicle he was riding, as successful.

"We managed to foil a multi-casualty terror attack in a crowded place," Franco said. He reported that the explosive device the terrorist was carrying contained 5-7 kilograms of explosives.
