Hamas’ Zahar hints at Israel’s right to exist

In an unprecedented move, Palestinian Prime Minister and Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar on Tuesday hinted at his group’s readiness to recognize Israel’s right to exist in a letter sent to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, a copy of which was obtained by the AFP.

“We wish, like all nations of the world, to live in freedom and security, and that our people will be able to enjoy peace and independence, side by side with our neighbors in this holy part of the world,” Zahar wrote to Annan. (AFP)
