Dor-Alon renews gas supply to PA
Energy market officials claim that Dor-Alon Energy Company, the main gas supplier to the Palestinian Authority, has renewed supply to the Palestinians
Dor-Alon constitutes a monopoly, as it is the sole fuel supplier to the PA. According to sources at the energy market, the PA owes the company tens of millions of shekels and it was doubtful whether the PA will be able to pay its debt to the company due to the economic crisis it is under these days, after the West has halted all aid to the Palestinians.
Last Saturday, Dor-Alon curbed the fuel supply to the PA and during the week the gas was supplied with numerous delays and disruptions.
On Monday a week ago, when reports of Dor-Alon's decision to discontinue fuel supply to the PA began to appear in the news, panic swept the PA and long lines of cars began forming outside gas stations.
Eventually, the fuel reserves at the PA were not depleted and most of the gas stations across the Authority were able to sell gas as usual.
The latest decision marks the second time in two months that Dor-Alon halts its supply to the PA. A month and half ago, supply was suspended after a PA check for tens of million of shekels bounced. Dor-Alon resumed the delivery of fuel only after the European Union paid Dor-Alon the missing funds.
It is estimated that Dor-Alon's annual sales to the PA amount to NIS 1.5 billion (About USD 320 million), which constitute 40 percent of the company's sales.
Meanwhile, Dor-Alon declined comment on the report.
