Woman killed in IDF arrest raid

Palestinian women killed by IDF fire during arrest raid in Tul Karem; Her two daughters injured in operation, Islamic Jihad suspect arrested

A Palestinian woman was killed and two others wounded during an IDF arrest raid Monday in the West Bank city of Tul Karem.

Itaf Zlat, 45, was killed according to reports after soldiers opened fire at a house in which a wanted terror suspect was hiding. Zlat's two daughters were injured during the operation.

Insam, one of the daughters said her mother "was injured in the head and evacuated to hospital." Doctors confirmed her death soon after.

The IDF confirmed the incident. IDF soldiers operating in the city besieged a house in which an Islamic Jihad terror suspect was hiding. Soldiers opened fire in the air when the man refused to hand himself in.

Soldiers directed their fire at one of the house's windows where they spotted movement, injuring Zlat in the head and wounding her daughters.

"After calling on him to go out soldiers fired live bullets in the air, then they identified suspects moving by the window and directed their fire at them," the IDF spokesperson said.

After a siege of one and a half hours the suspect surrendered and was remanded for interrogation. The IDF said the incident is being investigated and it regrets any harm caused to innocent civilians.
