IDF leaflet in Gaza: Quiet will lead to quiet

In a direct message to Gaza residents, an IDF leaflet says: 'Following the firing of Qassam rockets at Israeli lands, the IDF is responding in order to defend the citizens of the State of Israel. In recent weeks there has been calm when Qassams were not fired.'

The IDF presents the 'quiet formula': Leaflets distributed overnight in Palestinian communities in northern Gaza, following incidents in which Palestinian civilians were injured after being in areas from which Qassam rocket launchers were operating, directly addressed residents, saying: "Remember that quiet leads to quiet."

The IDF's Southern Command Front said that "there were four days of no Qassams and there was no artillery fire. When the rockets start again the cannons will go back into action. The equation here is simple and Palestinian civilians must understand it," an army source said.

The army leaflet read: "Following the firing of rockets at Israeli lands, the IDF is responding in order to defend the lives of the citizens of the State of Israel. Quiet ruled in recent weeks when there were no rockets fired at Israel."

Another army source said: "We will continue all activity to prevent the firing of Qassams and to destroy it through all means available to us. With that, we have no intention of harming the Palestinian population, and there is no reason to fire at areas from which terror cells are not operating from. The intention here is certainly to make clear that there won't be artillery if there won't be Qassams."

The IDF has identified a certain fall in Qassam launches, but say that the pattern of operation that began at the end of March will continue.

A security meeting held by Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz over the weekend raised the concern that terror organizations may again use a Katyusha rocket in the form of a Grad missile, fired at Ashkelon on elections day. A similar attempt was made a few days ago.

Meanwhile, the Karni crossing in northern Gaza has opened, after a terror attack was thwarted there last week. At this stage the crossing is working on a partial basis only in order to bring goods into the Gaza Strip.
