Jewish Agency to commemorate victims of overseas attacks

Parents of Yoel Cohen Ulcer, who lost his life in the November 2003 terror attack at Istanbul synagogue, invited to attend first-of-its-kind ceremony in Jerusalem

The Jewish Agency will hold a ceremony in commemoration of Jews murdered in terror or anti-Semitic attacks outside Israel.

The first-of-its-kind event will be held at 48 King George Street in Jerusalem at 9 a.m.

Some 200 Jews were killed in such attacks since 1968.

The Agency has invited the parents of Yoel Cohen Ulcer, who lost his life in the November 2003 terror attack at an Istanbul synagogue, to attend.

In his death Ulcer saved the lives of hundreds of other Jews who were holding a traditional Saturday morning prayer session.

The following is a list of major attacks on Jews living abroad:

2006: kidnapping and murder of Ilan Halimi in Paris.

1995: Murder of Jewish Agency emissary Shimon Feingold in Kiev.

1994: 85 people killed in terror attack on Argentine Israelite Mutual Association building in Buenos Aires.

1980: 4 killed when bomb explodes outside Paris synagogue.
