Braslav man suspected of murder

Samuel Daslone glanced and uttered a curse word at hassidic Braslav man. That was enough for the ultra-orthodox with the criminal record to allegedly stab Daslone, who later died of his wounds

A wandering glance and a curse word – these are apparently the reasons that led to the murder of Samuel Daslone, 31, on Saturday in Mazkeret Batya. The suspect, a 36-year-old Braslav hassidic with a criminal record, was apparently enraged after Daslone glanced at him and called him later a "stinking religious man" – and proceeded to stab him to death.

Later that night Daslone was rushed in critical condition to Kaplan Hospital in Petah Tikva, where he died of his wounds despite doctors' efforts.

Police have already arrested two men suspected in being involved in the case - Aviad Koresh and Gideon Bana - both of whom were brought to court on Sunday to extend their remand.

On Sunday morning police managed to get their hands on the murder suspect who said he was involved in the incident and even directed the investigators to the crime scene.

During the investigation police officers were shocked to discover that the fatal incident began with a wandering glance by the victim toward the murder suspect.

'He always took care of our mother'

The investigation revealed that Daslone arrived at a Mazkeret Batya shopping center on Saturday night. At some point the two men's glances intersected and the suspect aggressively asked Daslone "What are you looking at?" Daslone denied that he was looking at the hassidic man, but an argument ensued and tempers ran high.

The murder suspect said during his interrogation that what incited him to act was the fact that Daslone called him "a stinking religious man". He then allegedly drew a knife he was carrying and fatally stabbed the victim in the upper part of his body.

Apart of the detestable absurdity of a senseless murder, it appears that Daslone’s tragedy is even bigger. Several years ago his father passed away and he was left on his own to support his mother and seven siblings. Daslone worked as a gardener and used all his money to support his family.

His little sister Ilana said: "He raised us, bought us clothes and food. He always took care of our mother, who is retired. He drove us everywhere, and became a father after our dad passed away. We can't comprehend why it happened. How one can get murdered just like that?"
