Israeli man is Jim Carrey look-alike

Friends of Hollywood star pay man to double as actor to divert attention while real star travels country

Hollywood star Jim Carrey visited Israel last week, but managed to avoid both culture reporters and paparazzi photographers by using a look-alike to stay at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. So while reporters and photographers laid siege to Amir Garfunkel, Jim Carrey managed to travel undetected around Israel.

Acquaintances of Carrey's found Garfunkel, a native of Moshav Megadim, in a coffee shop about a month ago, and asked him to double for the famous actor when the latter visited Israel.

"We signed a contract, and I agreed that when Carrey arrived in Israel I would stay in 'his' hotel room," Garfunkel told TV reporter Chen Lieberman.

Carrey arrived from Egypt last week, and was photographed at the border inspection terminal at Taba, and Israeli entertainment reporters and photographers were in hot pursuit of the actor for the rest of the weekend.

When it was announced he was staying at the King David Hotel, they ran to Jerusalem, but now it turns out the man in the hotel room was none other than Amir Garfunkel.

"I came to the hotel surrounded by security, signed in as Carrey, and wore the same shirt he had on in the security picture. My job was only to sit in the hotel – they even took my cell phone away," he said.

Garfunkel refused to disclose how much he was paid for the job.
