Matisyahu to open for Sting

Hassidic rapper to return to Israel for first appearance since December

Hassidic rapper Matisyahu (Matthew Miller) will be the opening act for Sting on June 8 at the Ramat Gan Stadium. Matisyahu last appeared in Israel last December, and attempts have been made since then to arrange another appearance for him in Israel.

Sting’s son Joe Sumner is also expected to appear with his band Fiction Plane.

The Orthodox Jewish rapper has been a star for some time in the United States. It all began with an appearance on David Letterman, and his last album Youth took the charts by storm.

In March, Matisyahu became the only singer with two albums in the top 40 of the Billboard music charts.

Matisyahu, who combines rap, reggae, and rock, had two songs on a disc by nu-metal band POD. His first album Shake Off the Dust...Arise was released in 2004.
