At the peak of power

Eternal mountains on one side, calm lake on other side have drawn, continue to draw numerous photographers to Sea of Galilee. Enjoy tour among old, rare pictures taken in area during first days of Kibbutz Haon, one of first Nahal settlements

According to the ceasefire agreement between Syria and Israel, signed at the end of the War of Independence, the Sea of Galilee's southeastern coast remained a demilitarized area.

The purchase of the Samara lands from the Baha'i owners brought about the establishment of the "Haon" ("the power) settlement at the shore of the Sea of Galilee in August 1949.

Here is a photographed documentation of the settlement construction, from the clearing of mines and fortification to the building of permanent houses and adapting to life in a new community in the independent State of Israel.
