Israeli men earn 30 percent more
Report published by Finance Ministry reveals women earn less than men also among civil servants
The number of women working in government officers in November 2005 was 33,395, compared to 18,321 men. However, the women's average wage stood at NIS 5,966 (about USD 1,330), while men earned an average salary of NIS 7,131 (USD 1,590) – 20 percent higher, a report published by the Finance Ministry on Monday revealed.
The gaps in payment for overtime, according to the report, were huge: While women brought in an average NIS 1,151 (USD 257), men earned an average of NIS 2,531 (USD 564) – a 120-percent gap in favor of the men.
Men also held an impressive advantage in terms of the average reimbursement – NIS 1,065 (USD 237) compared to NIS 795 (USD 177) received by the women – a 34-percent difference.
Overall, men held an advantage of 31 percent in their gross salary, including overtime and reimbursement – NIS 12,623 (USD 2,815) earned by men compared to 9,638 (USD 2,149) earned by women in November 2005.
Out of 31 directors who served in the civil service at the highest rank, only eight were women. On the second rank, there were 42 female managers out of 169. Among the engineers, there were three men and no women.
Only one woman worked as a senior technician at the highest rank in government offices compared to eight men.
