Gaza: IAF strike kills Hamas member

Palestinian sources say Izz el-Din el-Qassam Brigades activist was killed during Air Force strike in Beit Hanun; two other gunmen wounded in attack

Palestinian sources said early Tuesday that a Hamas activist was killed during an Israel Air Force strike in Beit Hanun, in northern Gaza.

According to the sources, the Palestinian was identified as 19-year-old Ismail al-Masri, a member of Hamas’ armed wing, the Izz el-Din el-Qassam Brigades.

Two other Palestinian gunmen were critically wounded in the incident when an aircraft opened fire at them as they were approaching soldiers operating in the area.

Palestinian sources told Ynet that a large IDF force advanced a kilometer into PA territory in northern Gaza, adding that the soldiers called on residents to clear the area.

'IDF seized control of several structures'

Later Palestinian sources said that shortly after 1 a.m. an IDF chopper fired a missile toward the Islamic university in Gaza City; no injuries were reported.

The attack was the second the IDF has launched on the Hamas-affiliated institution in the past week in the framework of Israel’s efforts to target Hamas’ military and civilian infrastructure.

On Monday a Hamas activist was killed and another was wounded after an IAF aircraft fired a missile at a group of gunmen. The dead Palestinian was identified as Abed el-Rahim, 30, a member of Hamas’ military wing. Prior to the attack IDF bulldozers and armored vehicles entered north Gaza, and during the activity soldiers spotted two armed Palestinians; the soldiers proceeded to open fire at the gunmen, killing at least one of them.

Palestinian sources in Gaza said the IDF seized control of several structures in Beit Hanun, adding that troops have taken up positions on rooftops in the town.
