Haredi women to be trained for hi-tech

Malam Group IT company set to open training center for ultra-Orthodox women in Beitar Illit, tailored to suit their lifestyle

The growing demand for hi-tech employees in the heart of Israel and the increasing salaries in the industry has brought IT company Malam Group to the decision to start recruiting and training manpower coming from the haredi sector in the software field.

The computing company, along with the Beitar Illit Municipality, will set up a training and employment center which will train some 100 haredi women in the software professions during the next three years, in the framework of the Maalot project.

During the first course, which will open in August, 20 women will acquire Oracle and Dot Net skills and will later join the company's development unit. Malam said that the project will be tailored for the ultra-Orthodox's women's lifestyle: Working hours will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and the environment is set to suit their sensibilities.

In coming days the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry is due to decide whether it is too take part in the project and subsidize parts of the activities.
