Will the double eruption of war – in the north and south – have a far-reaching impact on Israel's political map? Right-wing parties have initiated a proposal to establish an emergency government to deal with the current security challenges facing Israel.

The calls were made by Israel Our Home leader Avigdor Liberman and National Union-National Religious Party MKs Zvi Hendel and Benny Elon.

MK David Tal of Kadima joined the calls.

Asked to respond to the initiative, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said: "In these hours I am busy coordinating with and ordering the security establishment and the IDF on the operation in Lebanon. This issue is not on the agenda at the moment."

An emergency government was formed on the eve of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

'IDF has good, detailed plans to act'

Calls to form an emergency government were heard last summer ahead of the disengagement from Gaza.

Politicians from the right and left of Israel's political spectrum have called for the establishment of an emergency government which would include as many Zionist parties as possible.

The Right-wing faction said terror groups have identified "the government's weakness," which has fueled their motivation.

"The IDF has good and detailed plans to act, the problem is the government's policy," Liberman said.

"The military response needs to be as such that they will regret touching IDF soldiers," he added.
