The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, Fatah’s armed wing, claimed Monday afternoon they had kidnapped a Border Guard officer in the West Bank.
An announcement published by the group claimed the abduction was carried out in the Judea and Samaria area and to prove the claim, the announcement included the name of the officer allegedly kidnapped.
The IDF responded that the name was not recognized, but added they were investigating the claims.
The soldier was identified as First Sergeant Osher Damari of Netanya.
Commander of the Judea and Samaria Division said following the incident: "There are many attempts by terror organizations in the West Bank to open another front, also in order to release the pressure from the south and north of the country."
On Monday a Palestinianwas nabbed in Jerusalem inpossession of an explosive device. An initial probe revealed that he was given the bomb earlier that morning, and on his way to the city center, he asked pedestrians where Jaffa Street was located and whether it was guarded by police and army force.
The man had been employed in a restaurant in central Israel for a number of years but was no longer working there. He was unmarried and was not previously known by security forces.
