A female solider was lightly wounded Tuesday when an apparently Arab man stabbed her and stole her weapon at Ruhot Junction near Military Training Camp 1. Magen David Adom emergency teams were called to the scene, and the soldier was evacuated for medical treatment at the base. Police say the circumstances of the event were not yet clear but were being investigated.
According to the police, the soldier was standing near the base when a car drove by. The driver got out and approached the soldier, then stabbed her twice in the back and fled the scene with her weapon. Following the event, police and army forces erected blockades in the area and a helicopter was dispatched in attempt to capture the perpetrator.
Shortly afterwards, a suspect, 34, was arrested with the soldier's stolen weapon in his possession. He was transferred to police custody for further interrogation.
A similar attack occured five months ago at the Hawara Junction in the Negev when an IDF soldier was attacked and lightly wounded and his weapon, an M-16 rifle, was stolen from him.
Police dispatch received a report on a soldier lying wounded at a bus stop. Police and army forces were called to the area. The soldier, a Bedouin from a Negev village who enlisted in the army two months prior, got a ride from his house to the bus stop at Hawara Junction where he was waiting for another ride to take him to his base.
