Attacks on north intensify

Hizbullah renews rocket fire: Barrage of rockets lands in Safed, injuring 4; rocket strikes empty home in Haia city, two people lightly hurt from shrapnel; rest land in open areas. Later 17 more rockets fired at north; 20 targets struck by IAF in Lebanon, among them long-range Zelzal missile launcher

Four rockets fell in Tiberias and its surroundings on Wednesday. A number of people suffered from shock.

A rocket exploded in a house, but no one was injured.

A brush fire was set off in open fields on the city's outskirts.

In one of the heaviest barrages fired at Israel since fighting broke out last Wednesday, a handful of rockets landed in Safed.

A house suffered a direct hit, but no one was injured. Five rockets also fell on Ma'alot, with one hitting a house. No injuries were reported. Rockets were also fired at Kiryat Shmona.

Earlier, a rocket fired by Hizbullah hit a house in the city injuring four people: one moderately and three lightly.

Sirens were sounded in the northern city of Haifa and its surroundings at noon Wednesday.

At the same time, four rockets fell in open fields in Nahariya.

About 10 rockets exploded in Hatzor Haglilit, Rosh Pina and Emek Jezreel sparking brush fires; two rockets also fell in Kiryat Shmona.

No damage or injuries were reported.

Earlier in the day a barrage of rockets landed in the Haifa area Tuesday morning. One rocket landed in an empty home in the city; two people sustained light shrapnel injuries. The remaining rockets landed in open areas.

The siren did not sound, possibly due to power shortages throughout the country. Haifa residents complained earlier in the week that in a number of cases the siren did not go off prior to rocket landings in the city, including the lethal strike on the train depot, in which eight people were killed.

Three Katyusha rockets fell Wednesday morning near communities in the western Galilee. No damage or injuries were reported.

In addition, a rocket barrage fell in open fields near Kiryat Shmona. No one damage or injuries were reported.

The Home Front Command has asked residents of communities along the northern border to remain in shelters.

The Nahariya Hospital reported that by Tuesday evening 88 people from the Galilee area had been treated for shrapnel injuries and shock.

Shops in Nahariya, Shlomi and surrounding communities remain closed.

The Israel Air Force struck over 20 targets in Lebanon overnight. Among the targets: A Zelzal rocket launcher, which can fire missles capable of reaching Gush Dan, a Hizbullah weapons cache, and truck carrying ammunitions, a road serving rocket launchers and 13 buildings used by Hizbullah operatives.

In addition two buildings, in Beirut and Tyre, used to finance terror activities were targeted.

IDF cannon batteries fired artillery rounds at Katyusha launch pads in southern Lebanon.

Over a thousand targets in Lebanon have been hit in about 2,000 sorties since the operation was launched eight days ago, the Air Force said.

At least 10 civilians were killed when Israeli aircraft bombed a street in a south Lebanon village on Wednesday, residents said.

They said more people were feared buried under the rubble of about 10 houses flattened by the strike on the village of Srifa.

IDF officials said Hizbullah is "amazed by the quantity of information Israel had, which led to considerable destruction of his capabilities."

"We won't be able to eliminate the firing and reach zero level, but we will be able to reduce the level and precision," a senior air force officer said.
