Andrei Zilensky scrambled to the shelter with his family yesterday in Nahariya. He hastened his wife, Radmilla, and 4-year-old daughter Galit to shut themselves in the shelter. And they did. But then Andrei decided to go back out to bring his daughter some clothes. He didn’t make it back: the house received a direct hit from a Katyusha. Andrei was killed on the spot and wife – who heard the fatal blast – was left only to identify his body in the hospital. Andrei immigrated to Israel six years ago from Ukraine, leaving his family behind, after he married. He worked in the Profile factory where he took a course on processing chips. On the 31st of the month he would have celebrated his 37th birthday. Shortly after last night’s tragedy, Radmilla told ynet about her husband. She can hardly believe that she will never see him again. “He was tall, 1.92 meters, and he had a lot of friends.” Her daughter asked her why she was crying. “I still don’t want to tell her,” she explained as she relived another tragedy that she experienced six years ago when her sister was killed in a car accident. The widow and her daughter spent the night with relatives in Rishon Letzion. Radmilla is planning to have the funeral in Ukraine. After, she hopes to emigrate to the United States. Until she leaves the country with her daughter, welfare services are taking care of her. Yuri and Irena Turitzah, acquaintances of the family, told, “He was a very good person. We came together from Ukraine. We learned together in ulpan. With a sense of responsibility and desire to serve the country, he enlisted in the army. He always said you need to do something for the country. What happened is terrible. It’s a disaster.” One of the family’s neighbors, Larissa Tiono, said that she and her family are currently planning to leave Nahariya. Until now, she explained, they have tried to stay strong, but Andrei’s death robbed them of all their strength. The family will be split up, some staying with relatives in the center of the country and some in Eilat. Andrei’s death raises the number of civilians killed in the week of fighting to 13. The most fatal blow thus far has been the hit on the train depot in Haifa, which killed 8 workers.
