IDF: Grad rocket landed in Israel Tuesday
Army says rocket that landed near southern Kibbutz Tuesday was 122 millimeter Grad; terrorists have dozens more, security officials say
IDF sources confirmed that a 122 millimeter Grad rocket landed Tuesday near Kibbutz Bror Chail, north of Sderot. Initially it was thought the rocket was a regular Qassam.
A Grad-type rocket landed in Israel for the first time in Ashkelon on Election Day last March.
Security officials said terror groups are in possession of dozens of Grad rockets, some of them improved.
“The motivation among terror organizations to attack is high, especially after more than 100 terrorists have been killed during IDF operations in Gaza,” one army official said.
“We will continue to act until they realize that the attacks are worth the effort.”
Israeli tanks began moving into the Mughazi refugee camp in central Gaza early Wednesday under cover of machine gun fire from troops.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that an operation was in progress.
The camp is near the Gaza-Israel fence across from the Palestinian town of Deir al-Balah. Israeli forces operated in the region late last week before withdrawing.
