Arab MK: Each government has its own massacre

Left-wing Knesset members rush to slam government, IDF following IAF strike in southern Lebanon village of Qana, which killed at least 50 people

Following the Israel Air Force strike in the southern Lebanese village of Qana, Hadash Chairman MK Muhammad Barakeh said Sunday morning that "every government has its own massacre, and this government has decided at its onset to carry out some massacres in Gaza and Lebanon, sponsored by the United States.

At least 50 people were killed in the strike, many of them children, after a three-story building collapsed. The building served as a shelter for refugees from southern Lebanon.

The Air Force reported that the Israel Defense Forces has been striking in the area for three days now following dozens of incidents in which Katyusha rockets were launched from inside the village and its surrounding area, and that residents were called to leave the village.

MK Barakeh complained that civilians were hurt in the attack: "All that emerged from the Olmert-Peretz was is a series of war crimes, because the government decided that the essence of the war is against Lebanese citizens."

Defense Minister Amir Peretz instructed the IDF to launch an immediate inquiry into the incident.

MK Ahmad Tibi (United Arab List-Ta'al) also responded to the Qana incident, saying that "Rice's smart bombs and Halutz's lauded pilots caused another expected war crime against Lebanese citizens. Olmert, Peretz and Bush bear diplomatic and moral responsibility for this horrible march of bodies."
