Qassam hits kibbutz storeroom

Rocket launched from northern Gaza Strip hits food storeroom in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, near dining room; no injuries reported, but storeroom suffers damage. Other rockets fired at western Negev; no injuries or damage reported

Ceasefire in the north, but southern front heats up. A Qassam rocket barrage was fired Monday morning at the western Negev. One of the rockets landed in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, causing damage to a food storeroom, which is adjacent to the kibbutz's dining room. There were no injuries.

Another rocket landed next to a residence in one of the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council kibbutzim, and another rocket landed in an open area. In both cases there were no reported of injuries or damage.

Benny Cohen, the security coordinator at Kibbutz Nahal Oz, said: "In the storeroom there is a large inventory of food. The rocket directly hit the structure and caused damage to the large amounts of food inside."

"In spite of the early hour, many people woke up to the sound of the blast and some also came to see what happened. Of course we prevented them from approaching the place," he added.

The landing of rockets is not an unusual event in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, but due to its geographical location – at the northern end of the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council – rockets hitting the kibbutz are not detected and the Red Dawn alert system is not activated.

In light of this fact, the danger of injuries among the kibbutz residents is higher as they are not warned to enter reinforced areas.

On Sunday afternoon, several Qassam rockets were fired at Sderot. One of the rockets hit a factory in the Shaar Hanegev industrial zone. A factory worker was moderately wounded in her leg, was treated by a Magen David Adom crew and was evacuated to the hospital. Several people suffered from shock.

According to the Sderot fire chief, David Sheetrit, the rocket fell in the factory yard, very close to the building.

"We are lucky the rocket hit the asphalt in the factory yard, so no damage was caused. If, heaven forbid, the rocket would have fallen 30 meters (98.43 feet) from there, it would have hit the factory and its hundreds of workers. Then things would have looked different."
