Qassams fired at Negev: House sustains direct hit

One rocket hits house in kibbutz Nahal Oz, causing some damage. In Sderot, Qassam lands in yard. Meanwhile, IDF forces operate in southern Gaza, strike Qassam launch sites

Six rockets were fired Tuesday morning at the western Negev area. One of the rockets directly hit a house in kibbutz Nahal Oz, causing damage but no injuries. Another rocket landed in an open area in the kibbutz.

Two more rockets landed in an open field in kibbutz Nir Am, one hitting near the local dairy farm. No injuries were reported in this incident as well.

Additionally, two rockets were fired at Qassam-stricken Sderot, and one landed at the yard of a house in town. The house itself was damaged, but its residents sustained no injuries. The second Qassam landed in an open field.

The Shaar Hanegev Regional Council has been working to fortify houses and educational facilities in the area in recent weeks. In some of the region's kibbutzim no security rooms have been built so far, despite the ongoing Qassam fire at the area. Head of the Council, Alon Shuster, said that "the houses of the residents in the near-Gaza communities are not fortified, and security rooms must be placed there immediately."

Shuster also threatened that the school year will not open as planned in the region if efforts to fortify schools are not completed by then. Meanwhile, the Sderot Municipality expects works at local schools and kindergartens to be concluded by the beginning of the school year.

IDF in Gaza

Infantry, Armored and Engineering Corps units have been operating since nighttime in the Dahaniya area in southern Gaza. The IDF reported that the operations were part of the army's activity aimed at thwarting terror threats and targeting tunnel infrastructure in the region.

The army has also shelled rocket launch sites in southern and northern Gaza. IDF officials stressed that the army was making every effort not to hurt civilians, and that all residents have been warned not to move in areas where fighting takes place.

"We will continue to operate against the terror infrastructure in Gaza in order to lay the ground for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, and to put a stop to the terror attacks and Qassam fire against Israel," the IDF said in a statement.
