IDF soldier killed in Lebanon

IDF forces operating in Nabi al-Awadi struck by mortar shells, killing Sergeant Or Shahar, 20. IAF strikes over 70 targets in Lebanon overnight

Difficult night of battles in eastern sector: An IDF soldier was killed overnight Saturday when mortar shells were fired at his crew near the village of Nabi al-Awadi in the eastern sector of south Lebanon.

 

The soldier was identified as Sergeant Or Shahar, 20, from kibbutz Yad Mordechai. He was killed when Hizbullah operatives in the village

fired mortar shells at Israeli troops, hitting the armored vehicle in which Shahar was riding.

 

He was critically wounded and died of his injuries while he was being evacuated. Another soldier was lightly wounded by mortar fire. He was treated on the scene and continued fighting. Shortly after the incidents, IDF forces managed to locate the mortar launcher and destroyed it

 

Since the outbreak of the fighting in Lebanon 44 Israeli soldiers have been killed. Overnight Friday, an IDF officer and two soldiers from the Golani Brigadewere killed in battles against Hizbullah operatives in Markhaba when an antitank missile was fired at them.

 

In addition to the ongoing ground incursion into south Lebanon, the IAF struck over 70 Hizbullah targets across Lebanon overnight Saturday. Israeli warplanes hit two rocket launchers and a number of targets in the southern Beirut Shiite neighborhood of Dahiya.

 

The army said it took out Hizbullah headquarters, offices, a weapons warehouse, among other sites.
