Peres warns of 'wars among Jews'

Vice Premier Shimon Peres tells Kadima ministers that 'ranks need to be united and continue the struggle against terror'

Vice Premier Shimon Peres said during a meeting of Kadima ministers that "It is forbidden for the State of Israel to plunge into wars between Jews."

"We need to unite our ranks and continue the struggle…against the quartet of terror – Iran, Syria, Hamas and Hizbullah."

Peres also said the United Nations Security Council should press the Lebanese government and Hizbullah to implement Resolution 1701 and to release two kidnapped Israeli soldiers "immediately."

The government is expected to approve the UN resolution for a ceasefire.

A senior official told Ynet that Israel will pull troops out of southern Lebanon in two weeks when an international force is deployed there.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan confirmed that the ceasefire will go into effect on Monday at 7 am.

The government will discuss a six percent cut to the budgets of most government ministries to finance the war.

Ministers will be also asked to approve the transfer of six percent of all ministerial surpluses to fund the war. The Finance Ministry said the welfare system, the police and the "Medicine Basket" won't be affected by the cuts.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert expects most ministers to vote in favor of adopting the resolution.

Olmert aides said the Resolution doesn't prevent Israel from defending its citizens and soldiers against Hizbullah attacks.
