VIDEO - Rocket attacks resumed: An 83 year-old man was killed Sunday when a rocket fired from Lebanon directly hit his home in a community located near the northern town of Shlomi two other people sustained moderate and light wounds by additional rockets that landed there. During the afternoon hours rockets landed in open fields in Haifa, Kiryat Shmona, Shlomi and Safed no injuries were reported. A short while later two people suffered moderate and light injuries in another rocket attack in the area. Two people were seriously wounded during a rocket attack on the Krayot area sirens were also heard in Binyamina and Zichron Yaacov, south of Hiafa. As of Sunday afternoon, more than 230 rockets had landed in the north, injuring some 75 people. The man killed in the rocket attack, a father of six, belonged to a family that was expelled from the Galilee village of Ikrit in 1948 and settled in a community near Shlomi, where it remains the only Christian family. One of his son’s said “he always wanted to return to Ikrit he used to visit the church located two kilometers from the community every couple of days this church was the last remnant of Ikrit.” “Despite the recent escalation he refused to leave his home, and even after the community suffered several rocket and mortar attacks he told my mother and sister that he believed no harm would come to them.” Rockets in Safed (Photo: Yaron Brenner) Earlier, at around 11 a.m., two rockets landed in open areas near Safed. Magen David Adom teams that were dispatched to the scene treated one person, who was moderately injured by shrapnel, and two other people who were lightly wounded. A rocket barrage was also fired at Maalot, landing in open areas and causing no damage. Concurrently, rockets landed in a community close to Kiryat Shmona. One of the rockets struck an industrial facility, causing damage to the building, but no injuries. Another direct hit was registered in a factory on one of the Galilee panhandle kibbutzim. The structure sustained damages, but no injuries were reported in this incident either. Sirens were heard across Nahariya, Safed, Haifa, the Krayot and Zichron Yaakov during the morning. Moti Dayan, a resident of Safed, told Ynet that he heard sirens while driving and ran to a nearby shelter. Moments later, a rocket landed next to his car, the shrapnel and ball bearings damaging it severely. Alex Barrat, another Safed resident, had just returned to the city after 28 days in Jerusalem. He had hoped to have some quiet, now that a ceasefire resolution is close to completion, but this was not to be. More than 68 rockets landed in northern communities Saturday. Eight people were lightly injured by shrapnel and 17 suffered from shock. The police reported that 3,650 rockets have landed in Israel since the onset of the fighting, 835 of them inside cities. About 930 rockets have landed in the Kiryat Shmona area so far, 730 in the Nahariya area, 584 in the Maalot area, 448 in the Safed area, and 181 in the Tiberias area.
