David Amar, 24, from Kiryat Shmona, and Yevgeny Timpoyev, 20,from Rishon Lezion were killed Monday night in southern Lebanon,
hours before the ceasefire between Israel andHizbullah wentinto effect.
The two were killed after an anti-tank missile hit the engineering vehicle they were traveling in. Their death raised the death toll among IDF soldiers in the war to 118.
David (Dudu) Amar grew up in the northern town of Kiryat Shmona and was killed only a few kilometers from his parents' home. In two months he was supposed to celebrate his 25th birthday. His brother, Idan, who is 23, said: "He was an older brother in the full sense of the word. He loved nature, loved to sit at pubs, be with friends, loved the country and landscape, loved playing his guitar, and was very attached to his family."
Idan said Dudu fulfilled his wish to serve in a combat engineering unit and did not hesitate when he was called up for duty three weeks ago.
"He was called up to serve and reported for duty immediately. He loved this country," Idan said.
Meanwhile, Dudu's younger sister, 13-year-old Noam, was walking around the house with her killed brother's dog tag hanging around her neck. Idan said the fact his brother was killed in the last night of fighting hurts but added he is not mad at anyone. He said that Saturday night David called home and said everything was in order, but added his cell phone battery was running out so he would not be able to call again. This was his last call.
David Amar is survived by his parents Albert and Ofra and his four siblings: Idan, Matat, Or'el, and Noam.
